New technology has shaped the context in which idea exchange takes place, on the EU as on anything else. Instant, virtual discussions unite people across great distances, and create new opportunities for academics and practitioners to demonstrate the ‘impact’ of their work by creating and informing new, virtual, public spheres and spaces.
Created with a view to raising the profile of academics and researchers with the policy community, research councils and media, the multi-user blog site Ideas on Europe provides an impartial, unbiased platform where individuals can engage in informed analysis, comment, and debate.
The site is administered by UACES, whose membership base of over 1000 academics, practitioners and research students provides an instant audience for our contributors.
It can be daunting testing out new technology, especially when professional reputations are at stake.
Blogging via Ideas on Europe will provides our contributors with the support to get the most from their online presence while helping reduce the possible pitfalls. Safety in numbers helps our contributors to feed off each others’ traffic, search engine profiles and successes while building their individual online space and reputation.
Along the way, we hope to help them raise the profile of their work and demonstrate more clearly its relevance to the world beyond academia, and in the process help both widen and raise the level of debate about Europe in its broadest sense.
