In March, I decided to apply for a UACES Microgrant to receive funding to attend the 12th Biannual Conference of the ECPR Standing Group on the European Union, which took place between June 19th and 21st, 2024, in Lisbon at the Universidade NOVA.

The SGEU Biannual Conference, a significant event for those working in the European Union, serves as an invaluable platform for sharing research and learning from the leading experts in the field. The three-day event, with its insightful panels, thought-provoking lectures, and opportunities for socialising, is a must-attend for anyone in the field.

During the conference, I presented in different but equally exciting panels. The first paper, titled “Making the Most out of a Crisis? Analysing the Role of the European Commission as a Competence Maximiser in the Context of the new Expenditure Policies created within the 2021-2027 MFF/NGEU”, was presented within the panel “The European Commission in EU Policy-Making”. The second paper, titled “New Intergovernmentalism and The Integration of the Public Finance Core State Power: Evidence from the Own Resources Decisions (1988-2020)”, is in the panel “Building Fiscal Capacity: Old and New Challenges”.

Participating in the SGEU Biannual Conference has been a transformative experience, both academically and personally. The detailed feedback I received from the panels has significantly enriched my research, and the opportunity to meet and learn from amazing scholars has been truly inspiring. I am deeply grateful to UACES for their support through the UACES Microgrant, which made my participation in this conference possible.
