Add a header image

First, you need to create your header using the image editing software of your choice, and save it to your computer.

If you don’t have any image editing software, try Sumo Paint – a free online option. To find lots of nice images to use as backgrounds for your header, try¬† – but remember to do an “Advanced Search” and select the option “Only search within Creative Commons-licensed content”. That way you won’t end up getting hit with copyright claims.

For a perfect fit, the image should be 1000 pixels wide and 150 pixels high. But don’t worry if you haven’t got one the right size – you can crop it later.

Now you’re ready to change your header.

Go in to your blog’s dashboard ( and click on “Appearance”, towards the bottom of the left-hand sidebar, then “Customize”.

You should see an option “Header Image” – click on it:

Now you can upload your header.

If your header image is too big, now you’ll be given the option of cropping it to fit.

Your header is now in place.

If you want to remove the automatic blog title that will be sitting on top of your header, go to ‘Site Identity’ and un-tick ‘Display Site Title and Tagline’.

Then just click “Publish” at the top, and you’re done!
